EC citizens now have to prove they have medical cover and the means to support themselves.
And legal documents like bank statements are not accepted unless they are Spanish or offically translated to Spanish etc...
I think coming from the UK where even if you disagree with the requirement it is basically the same for everybody anywhere in the UK.
Here it changes in the same office almost on a day by day basis, l think we are now getting to know that most official contact is never going to be easy and will always require at least a second visit.
Not only is this now an obligation, it can make life here much easier and in many cases speed up the bureaucracy that they get involved in. There are two types of Residencia certificates : Temporary, for when you are planning to be here between 3 months and 1 year, and Permanent, which is valid for 5 years, but is renewable after that period.
The process of applying for your Residencia certificate is similar to that of getting your NIE and is done by going to the nearest provincial Police Station (Comisara de Polica Provincial) that has a foreigners department (Oficina de Extranjeros).
